INTERVIEW: Bobby Thomas on his season so far and coming up against Leeds United

The defender looks ahead to tomorrow's clash...

5 April 2024

Bobby Thomas said that this weekend’s clash with Leeds presents a ‘good opportunity’ for him and his teammates to get back to winning ways.

The Sky Blues remain outside of the top six, with seven games remaining to close the gap.

City entertain Leeds at the Coventry Building Society Arena, the side that Bobby scored his first goal for the club.

A win for City could see them go within a point of the top six if results elsewhere go there way and Thomas is hoping the Sky Blues can ‘get the win back in their sails’.

Looking back at the defeat to Cardiff…

“From the run we have been on recently, you can’t win every game sometimes and it’s just one where we need to reset and regroup.

It wasn’t a great game and we underperformed from where we’ve been recently, but it just shows where we’ve been at and where we need to get back to.”

Liam Kitching’s mood after the game…

“He will be fine. After the game it was forgotten about straight away.

Own goals are an awkward one when you can’t do much about it, especially the second one.

It’s happened to me once or twice this season and there’s nothing you can do and knowing him he will bounce back straight away and move on.”

Coming up against Leeds United…

“We won’t be able to play at the level we played at on Monday against Leeds.

There’s no reason for us to be afraid or not feel positive going into the game. We’re all positive going into it.

It’s a great opportunity for us to get the wind back in our sails and get back to winning ways.

When we’re all on it and on the same page, I feel we’re a good force and we just haven’t been consistent enough this year at being the level we would have liked to have been to be higher in the table.”

The Sky Blue Army…

“They’ve been terrific. The support has been really good this season.

It’s been second to none and it’s been amazing and full credit to the fans because home and away they always come in numbers, and they give us that boost that we need, and you do feel it.

In the big games the atmosphere is amazing, and they kick us on and give us that extra 5/10%.”

His first season at Coventry City…

“I’m really enjoying it. It’s been my first season in the Championship, and you always want to be better, but I feel like I’ve progressed and learnt along the way, and I’ve really enjoyed it and I just want more of the same.

My passing and understanding of progression through the thirds are something I’ve improved on this season.

This is probably the nicest football I have played at a team and that’s no disrespect to the other sides I’ve played for, it’s just the style of football we play here.”
