INTERVIEW: Ben Sheaf looks back at defeat to Birmingham City

The midfielder gave his reaction...

13 April 2024

Ben Sheaf said it was a 'disappointing day' as the Sky Blues slipped to defeat against Birmingham City.

Two goals in the first half and another after the restart took the game away from City, as they were condemned defeat.

Sheaf spoke to the local media after the final whistle and gave his reaction to the result.

Reflections on the defeat…

“I don't really know what to say really. It's just a disappointing day, didn’t really get going.

I think we started alright, first 10 minutes we had a few half chances here and there, we started pretty well but just huffed and puffed a little bit and didn't really show enough quality and just conceded some bad goals.

We were saying on our day we know we can beat anyone. You know when we follow a game plan and show our quality.

We know we can beat anyone as we did against Leeds, as we have done, multiple times this season. So, we've got to look at that and just try not to have days like today.”

The start to the second half…

“I thought we started pretty well in the second half as well, put them under right pressure.

We felt good we felt if we scored the next goal, we definitely could turn things around but yeah, after a bit of a good bit of pressure at the start of the second half, they then go and go down the other end and nick the third and, then it gets really tough from then on.

But yeah, we had a lot the ball just didn't quite have the intricacy or quality to get something.”

On their goals…

“Seems to be just conceding those sorts of goals at the moment.

It just doesn’t seem to be going our way, we just didn't really show enough quality throughout the game, we got into some alright areas, but just didn't have that kind of edge today that we needed.”

The playoffs…

“Until it's mathematically, not possible you can always hope. It's a big ask now. But you know, all we can do is try win our remaining games and see where that puts us.”
