INTERVIEW: Ben Sheaf reflects on defeat to Cardiff City

The midfielder gave his thoughts...

1 April 2024

Ben Sheaf gave an honest assessment, after City slipped to defeat against Cardiff City in Championship action.

The midfielder looked back on the proceedings, as the Sky Blues let a 1-0 lead get away from them against the Bluebirds.

Reflecting on the game…

"Disappointing. A tough one to take. We just were not quite at it today in all areas of the pitch.

Disappointing all round because we want to be winning games at this time of the season.

Every game is a high-pressure game, but we have got to forget about it now and focus on a big game against Leeds coming up."

There was a lot of sloppy passes, there was a lot of sloppy things we did, but we still created plenty of chances.

We were in the ascendency most of the time. There were just a few lapses in concentration.

We just got punished. Two sloppy goals. We put pressure on them at the end, but it just was not quite good enough."

Ellis Simms' goalscoring form…

"He is doing really well, and I am really pleased for him. Hopefully he keeps it going until the end of the season.

He gives us the right chance of winning games, but everyone needs to chip in to help us get results."

The two own goals...

"These things happen. He will bounce back I am sure of that. It is disappointing but we cannot dwell on it.

Looking at the results today, the league is going to ebb and flow so we cannot get too down.

He (Kitching) is very disappointed in the dressing as we all would be. We just need to look beyond that and focus on Leeds."

Results elsewhere…

"Personally, I do try and look at other teams. I just focus on our game and our games in hand.

But hearing they (Norwich) lost, it was not ideal to then lose ourselves.

We just need to play one game at a time."

The play-off run in…

"We have to look after ourselves. If we perform the way we know we can, we should be okay.

We are well aware of the schedule we have got. We will have players coming back fit too which is important.”
