1 September 2023

Coventry City are delighted to announce the signing of Liam Kitching!

The defender joins the Sky Blues following agreement of an undisclosed fee with Barnsley.

23-year-old Liam has signed a four year contract with the Club.

Harrogate-born Kitching began his career at Leeds United, joining his hometown side on loan in January 2018 and netting 3 goals in 10 games in National League North.

He returned to Harrogate in the National League in the 2018/19 campaign, adding a further 39 appearances and 4 goals to his tally.

Having impressed at Town, Forest Green Rovers swooped in for Kitching at the start of the 2019/20 season for an undisclosed fee. Liam would make 53 appearances for the Gloucestershire side in his eighteen months at the League Two side.

His form at Rovers caught the attention of Barnsley and Kitching moved to Yorkshire in January 2021. He would go on to play 93 games for the Oakwell club, scoring on 6 occasions, and would skipper the side as the Club reached the 2023 League One Play-Off Final.

Manager Mark Robins said:

“We are delighted to welcome Liam to Coventry City.

“Liam is a talented player, who is versatile across the back line.

“He is a strong defender who is comfortable with the ball at his feet, and provides leadership as well and a maturity beyond his years.

“We are very pleased that he has chosen to join us and look forward to working with him.”
