City pick up all three points against QPR...

30 September 2023

Ellis Simms fired the Sky Blues to all three points against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

The striker scored his first goals for the Club, with a first of the season for Josh Eccles sandwiched in between a dominant second half display.

Kenneth Paal pulled one back for the hosts late on, but it would prove to be nothing more than a consolation.

The first chance of the game fell to the Sky Blues and it was Ellis Simms who latched onto a loose pass at the back, raced through on goal and from a tight angle, fired the ball over the bar.

At the other end, Ben Wilson produced an outstanding save at full stretch to deny a Lyndon Dykes header from finding its way into the back of the net.

City pushed forward, looking to find a breakthrough, with Simms being denied by a Steve Cook interception, Luis Binks seeing his shot deflect behind and Bobby Thomas heading over the bar.

HALF-TIME: QPR 0-0 Sky Blues

The second half started how the first had begun, as Simms raced through on goal, but this time he would be denied by Asmir Begovic in the Hoops goal.

Lyndon Dykes couldn’t trouble Wilson as he had done in the first half minutes later as he unleashed a wild effort which went high and wide.

Begovic was quick off his line once more to keep out Simms, as the striker looked to poke it under the ‘keeper, but he made himself big to make the stop.

After being denied twice by Begovic, Simms would finally get the better of the ‘keeper as he latched onto a Luis Binks header back across goal, smashing the ball through the legs of Begovic and putting City in front.

A few minutes later and it was 2-0 when Godden’s strike came off Latibeaudiere and fell to Josh Eccles, who’s shot came off Adomah and went past Begovic.

QPR were in search of a route back into the game and they were looking to play the long ball into the box for Dykes and the striker got his head onto a ball into the box, but it went wide of Wilson’s goal.

The floodgates opened up at Loftus Road and Simms soon had his second of the game, getting on the end of a Jamie Allen ball across goal to make it 3-0.

After a stunning save in the first half, Wilson produced another smart stop to keep out an Andre Dozzell strike from distance.

Haji Wright came on for Simms with ten minutes left on the clock and he looked to get in on the act, but his strike from close range was kept out by Begovic and went behind for a corner.

From the resulting set-piece, Eccles picked out the head of Godden at the near post, but he couldn't direct his effort on target.

Kenneth Paal pulled one back late on for the hosts but it would prove to be nothing more than a consolation.
