OFFICIALS: Referee watch versus Hull City

14 September 2023

Tony Harrington has been appointed as the referee for Friday night's away game against Hull City.

Teesside born Harrington last took charge of a Sky Blues game in April 2022, when he refereed City's 2-1 defeat at home to Huddersfield Town. During the same season, he was also the man in the middle for the FA Cup tie at Southampton when the Sky Blues lost in extra time. He has refereed Coventry City on a total of seven occasions.

Having started as a referee at the age of 14 in the Teesside Junior Football Alliance, Harrington's career as an official includes spending four years as an EFL assistant referee and four years in the National League, before his promotion to the EFL referees list in 2012. He was promoted to the Select List of referees in June 2021 and officiated his first Premier League fixture in December of that year.

So far this campaign, Harrington has refereed two matches - handing out his yellow card three times in each of those games, but keeping the red card in his pocket on both occasions. Last season in his 11 games there were 39 yellow cards given with no reds.

Assistant referees on Friday night will be Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn, while the fourth official is Rebecca Welch.
