Matty Godden said he is the fittest he has ever been, after enjoying a successful start to the season in front of goal.
Matty has scored three goals in five fixtures of the season, his best start to a season since his arrival from Peterborough back in 2019.
The striker also agreed a new deal with the Club earlier this year, committing his future until the summer of 2025.
Speaking to the press earlier today, Godden spoke of his start to the campaign, the arrival of two new strikers and his new deal.
Start to the season…
“It's been good to get a run of games and the boys are all gelling well and game by game we're all coming on and working out each other's game and playing some good stuff.
“I'm feeling really good at the moment. It's the fittest I've been since I've been here and the stats say that so yeah, and I'm enjoying football.”
Was he worried with the arrival of new strikers…
“No, not really. I know obviously the calibre of player that the football club have been bringing in now, but I never let anything like that affect me.
“I know my role is in the team and I know what I can do in front of the goal and that's what my job is.
“So, I'll just stick to doing that and score the goals they're put in front of me”.
Haji and Ellis settling in…
“It will take a little bit of time, but I think the two boys that have come in are different players, but I feel like I'm getting to know their games week on week really.
“I've played I think twice or three times with them both now so it’s just about getting to know what they want, really and I'll try and provide as much as I can for them.”
Bigger crowds at the Coventry Building Society Arena…
“That’s what it's all about and that's what gets us players going and gets me going especially playing in front of large crowds.
“We've known the support has been there throughout my whole time here and away from home as well it's incredible seeing the sold out stands everywhere we go and then you come back, come back home and there's 25,000 in the stadium.
“It's special on it's only going to help us along the way.”
Needing a new celebration…
“I haven't got a clue what celebration I'm doing at the moment. I need to make a new one up.
“I'll leave that out to my little lad, and he can come up with one for me. I don't even know what I'm doing at the moment.”
Happy at Coventry…
“I'm very settled. I love the place and the club's done a lot for me and I feel like I've given the club a lot and it's an important part and it's been a big part of my journey so I'm very happy to be here.
“The reason why I joined was to build a journey and keep going on that journey and see how far we can get and see how far I can get and at the moment it's going it's going very well and hopefully we can reach the very top.
“Ever since I've come here, I've built relationships with everyone.
“I live in a town close by the training ground and everything about it just suits and my little boy and my family have all bought into it and enjoyed coming up and it's just a journey that I've enjoyed being on and wanting to stay on.”
His season so far…
“I didn’t have a bad game, but I wasn't me in front of goal away at Leicester on the opening day which I was disappointed about.
“But from then on, the contract situation was sorted and signed the next day and from then on it was right now my future is sorted and time to get my head down.
“I watch clips of myself before every game as little reminder of what my game is all about and I did that, and the goals haven't really stopped since.
“Obviously I didn’t score the weekend but I'm as confident as ever and just want to keep myself as fit as I can.”
