INTERVIEW: Mark Robins frustrated with late draw against Huddersfield

25 September 2023

Mark Robins was left frustrated after his side were pegged back in injury time against Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers equalized with the last kick of the game, to take away all three points from the Sky Blues.

Speaking after the whistle, Robins looked back on the draw and also revealed the latest on Kasey Palmer, who missed out.

Frustrated with the draw…

“It’s so frustrating. We had chances to win the game.

“We started brightly and we bossed the first half, they didn’t have much say to be honest, we weren’t brilliant either by any stretch but we were better than them.

“We looked like we could create something.”

Conceding late on…

“What happens at the minute is things start shift, whether that’s tiredness, but within a game we start to give the ball away and momentum shifts.

“We’re trying to get some sort of rhythm and start winning games, we haven’t lost the game but it’s frustrating because we’ve given away a late goal.

“That can become a thing. We have to remain focused and present in the moment and deal with the situation instead of getting hotheads.

“There was so much wrong with that goal in the buildup. Liam Kelly gets nudged under the ball, Binksy comes out to try and win it and Hudlin flicks it round the corner.

“Bidwell should go to the man with the ball, but then we don’t need all the defenders coming out of their position.

“Ball gets played off the back of Bidders and the balls gone into the box, and we start panicking trying to shift the ball when we haven’t done the right thing.

“It comes off Bobby and he shouldn’t really be there, and it goes straight onto the lads foot and goes into the top corner and its so bad and so disappointing.”

Turning draws into wins…

“We have to dust ourselves down and go again. It can become a thing and it is a thing to a degree but its easily dealt with.

“You have to stay in the moment and deal with the situation and if you’re present you know what’s going on.

“It plays on your mind, we’ve had some really good games. We could have won every game we’ve played, even last week at Cardiff.

“We didn’t take our chances to kill the game off and that’s been the story of since I’ve been here, until the end of last season and that’s after three years work.”

Light in midfield…

“We are down in midfield because we’ve lost players who can come in and help us in the middle of the park.

“I don’t want to make excuses that’s just the cards I’ve been dealt and whilst it sounds like I’m bemoaning my luck, I’m bemoaning that we have to be better than that.

“The players we have are good enough, there’s no doubt about that.”

Chance to win it late on…

“It’s a brilliant move and it should be in the back of the net.

“Haji tries to scoop it because its slightly behind him and he tries to lift it because the goalkeeper is just in front of him.

“Ultimately, just get a foot on it and put it on target, because if it’s on target it has a chance.”

Fitness update…

“We need more help.

“Injuries to Ben Sheaf, Milan and Kasey Palmer have been a blow, but we have to get past that.

“Kasey has an adductor tear so it could be anything between 4 and 8 weeks.

“We have Jamie Allen coming back and he’s had another half hour tonight.

“We need the others back as soon as we can, I’m talking about Callum O’Hare and the others, so we have those positive changes.”
