COMMUNITY: City players visit SBitC Adults Disability session

27 September 2023

At the end of last month, Coventry City players Fabio Tavares & Jake Bidwell visited Sky Blues in the Community's weekly Adult Disability session at the Moat House Leisure Centre.

Each month the Sky Blues squad visit a range of community appearances and events, including supporters groups and Sky Blues in the Community activities.

The SBitC Adult Disability session that Fabio and Jake visited is inclusive for all those who have a disability and are over the age of 18 years old.

Sky Blues in the Community have been delivering this session since 2018. The aim of the session is to bring people together who live with a disability and would like to build positive and lasting relationships whilst staying active by playing football.

At the end of August, Fabio and Jake visited the session to meet and greet with the participates. Both players were amazing on the day, making sure they spoke to every participant on a one-to-one level and brought them together as a group to answer any questions during a 15-minute Q&A.

During the visit, Tavares and Bidwell both joined in with the participants in a crossbar challenge which the participants absolutely loved.

Inclusion Co-Ordinator, Alex Jane commented on how this event benefited the participants:

"It was amazing to have Jake and Fabio at today's session. Many of the participants that access this session on a weekly basis are huge Sky Blues fans and go to the games home and away.

"Having two of their heroes attending a session to spend time and play with them has an enormous impact on their happiness, self-esteem, and confidence."

Participants were also asked how they enjoyed their surprise visit.

One participant commented:

"Today was amazing. I love coming to football on Tuesdays, I get to socialise with my friends and stay fit at the same time. I was so shocked when the coach walked onto the pitch with Tavares and Bidwell. I wanted to scream, I am a huge City fan and go to every home game.

"To be able to have a talk face to face with them, joke around and play a bit of football with two of my heroes is a dream come true. I cannot wait for the next visit in the future. I’ll make sure to bring my shirt to get signed."

If you live with a disability and want to get involved in football, please contact for more information on the session and what it entails.
