The Under-21s fall to defeat against Fleetwood...

31 October 2023

City’s Under-21s suffered defeat to Fleetwood Town at the Coventry Building Society Arena in Professional Development League action.

The Sky Blues started the better of the two sides, as they dominated possession, as they looked to create an opening.

Callum O’Hare came the closest to finding the games opening goal, when he struck the woodwork from the edge of the area, but the linesman flagged for offside.

It would then be the visitors who would find the breakthrough in the game when a ball into the box was headed past Luke Bell by Sam Fishburn.

Moments later, after being brought down on the edge of the box, O’Hare stepped-up to take the free-kick from 20 yards-out, but his strike went narrowly over the bar.

Fleetwood had the chance to make it 2-0 when Maleace Asamoah found himself one-on-one with Bell, but the City shot-stopper produced a fine stop.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 0-1 Fleetwood Town

Both sides battled for possession in the early exchanges of the second half, with neither side able to create a clear-cut opening.

Pharrell Brown had the best opening fifteen minutes into the second 45 minutes, when he forced Bell into another smart stop, this time down low to his right.

However, not long after, Fleetwood were awarded a penalty when Callum Perry was adjudged to have brought down Fishburn in the area.

Asamoah was given the responsibility of taking the penalty and he dispatched the ball past Bell to double the Cod Army’s lead.

City pushed for a way back into the game, going close with a Rylie Siddall strike from distance, which he pulled wide.

The game was put to bed two minutes before the final whistle when a stunning strike from Asamoah left Bell with no chance as it flew into the top corner.

There was time for the Cod Army to add another in injury time and it was substitute Tom Hoyle who headed past Bell.
