INTERVIEW: Chris Allen disappointed with Fleetwood defeat

City fell to a 4-0 defeat...

Sky Blues Under-21s coach, Chris Allen was disappointed with City’s performance, as they fell to a 4-0 defeat against Fleetwood Town in the Professional Development League.

City were 1-0 behind at the break, before three goals in the second half took the game away from the Sky Blues and cemented defeat.

Speaking after the final whistle, Allen told how what was produced on the pitch wasn’t good enough for the Sky Blues.

“Not good. I'm not going to dress it up. It was evident that we weren't good enough when you get done 4-0,” Allen said.

“We know it's not about results and it’s about development for this side but there's development things in knowing how to stay in a game, knowing how to move the ball, knowing how to create space and get yourself on the ball and we don't do that very well and it's across the board.

“I don't think anybody came out of any credit. They need look at themselves, reflect on it and try and come back in the next training session or next game and do better than that.

“At Coventry City Football Club, we need to be better than that in terms of how we go about the pitch and it's been a long while since we played a game.

“The lads needed to approach it with a little bit more and a bit more endeavour.”

The fixture saw the return to action for several Under-21s players, who hadn’t featured for the development side for a few weeks due to involvement with the first team.

Whilst not wanting to use that as an excuse and understanding the development curve which the players will go on whilst training with the first team, Allen admitted the cohesion and chemistry wasn’t where it could have been,

“Cohesion is probably missing and a bit of understanding and chemistry amongst each other that might be missing.

“But what you do want to be evident is a bit of a bit of life and a bit of urgency, a bit of enthusiasm, even you know it's still it's a football game.

“We’re at the peak end of it, where it's about performances, but there's still a kid in there at heart that wants to get on the ball with a bit of energy and a bit of vitality.

“I was saying that to John Dempster that we just lacked that and just bring that back, bring that back and then things happen and things work for you.”
