City make it back -to-back wins...

28 November 2023

Haji Wright scored his fifth goal of the season to fire City to all three points against Plymouth Argyle at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Wright broke the deadlock in the 75th minute, firing home after a superb run from Milan van Ewijk down the right-hand side.

Victory makes it two on the bounce for City, who also keep a third clean sheet in as many games.

The Sky Blues started the game on top, looking to get in behind the Plymouth backline, a theme which would be present throughout the first half.

City were finding joy down the right-hand side with balls into the box from Milan van Ewijk and Josh Eccles, but fine margins prevent an attempt on goal.

A long ball over the top from Bobby Thomas released Jamie Allen and he looked to pick out Haji Wright at the back post, but the midfielder’s ball went behind for a goal kick.

The closest Mark Robins side would get to opening the scoring came from one of their goalscorers against Millwall and it was Ben Sheaf who went past his man and looked for the bottom corner, but his strike went narrowly wide.

Sheaf then went close once more, finding himself at the back post with the ball at his feet, only to be denied by a fine stop from Michael Cooper in the Argyle goal.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 0-0 Plymouth Argyle

After the break, Fin Azaz latched onto a through ball and he twisted and turned in the box, but his shot would be blocked by van Ewijk.

A corner into the box saw the visitors create their best opening of the game as Adam Randell, who had only just been introduced, fired inches over the bar.

Argyle would be left to rue that missed opportunity as the Sky Blues would finally break the deadlock in the 75th minute when Haji Wright was on the end of a van Ewijk pull back to fire the ball past Cooper.

City were able to see out the remainder of the game, as they picked up a second win on the bounce.
