Mark Robins said that today’s victory over Millwall at The Den ‘had been coming’, as his side got back to winning ways.
Goals from Matty Godden, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Ben Sheaf punished the Lions, as City produced a dominant performance in their first fixture after the break.
Speaking after the final whistle, Robins gave his assessment of a 3-0 win against Millwall.
Reflecting on the result and getting back to winning ways…
“I think it's been coming. It's difficult to come out and speak after we've lost games and played really well.
“Really things turned at Bristol City away where we played probably the best away game that we've had and lose the game and then we go into the Rotherham game on the Wednesday and lose the game and not score and then that went on for four games and that dents the confidence a little bit.
“But you could see the signs are there and we've got a really good group. They're all working for each other and that will get better.
“Tatsu scores our first goal today and we get another clean sheet. Matty Golden gets on the score sheet and then Sheaf at the end rounded off a really good away performance.
“Everybody performed really well. I think the back lads were good and Brad's obviously kept his second clean sheet which is a real big plus for us and it settles things down going into a really tough and quick run of games.”
Training this week…
“Training has been really good, although the three lads that were awaiting on international duty weren't involved.
“We had a really good week and put a load of good sessions together and it looks like they've got a bit between the teeth and today they showed that courage, determination, togetherness and really the courage in terms of taking the ball and passing it really well.”
Haji Wright’s involvement…
“Haji gets into good positions. He's just got to keep getting in those positions because the goals will come, I mean he's had a hand in two today where the keepers made a save or he's been involved in it.
“He needs a little bit of confidence and love and things will turn for him in terms of finishing. But he looked a threat again.”
Taking the game to Millwall…
“I thought we were really good, and I think that they looked like they were on the backfoot we'd put them on the backfoot. So psychologically, the game changed and does often change on that.
“We were on top, we started to pass, and they then couldn't get near US when we were moving the ball really well.
“I thought we were really good. They tried to find space and we were looking for space and we tried to block it off and what we did well was keep the ball and nullified it as well as blocking things off and when we had the ball we attacked with purpose.”
Not getting too carried away…
“It's only the first step really but you know it's been there because it’s been there all season and I've been saying we’ve been playing really well don't worry about it. Even though we don't like looking at ourselves in the position we're in, in the division.
“We've got good players and I keep on talking about process and then process becomes boring and a bit difficult, especially when you're not winning games.
“But it is, it's all part of the process. So, I think it's important to remember that and also not get too carried away, even though it's a really good result.”
