The young Sky Blues have ended their Professional Development League campaign with a win on the road over Bristol City but have failed to secure a play-off spot, due to results elsewhere.
John Dempster's side went into the day knowing that they must win in Bristol and hope that Hull City and Wigan Athletic lose elsewhere to stand any chance of finishing inside the top two of the Northern section of the Professional Development League.
Justin Obikwu handed his side the lead early on, set up by Tristan Batanwi, before Tommy Backwell levelled the game for the hosts.
Obikwu was back amongst the goals after the break, putting City ahead, before Harrison Nee made sure of the win with just over 20 minutes left on the clock.
The result saw City's youngsters end their season on a nine-match unbeaten run, of which they have won five, but a win elsewhere for Wigan left them outside the top two on the final whistle and unable to make the play-offs.
