CLASSICS: Middlesbrough 0-2 Sky Blues

Peter Ndlovu and Micky Quinn were on target for the Sky Blues...

6 May 2023

On 6 February 1993, the Sky Blues stormed to a memorable Premier League win over Middlesbrough at Boro's former Ayresome Park home.

14,008 supporters were in attendance in the North East as Bobby Gould's side score two second-half goals and kept a clean sheet against Lennie Lawrence's men.

Ndlovu's goal was a stunning solo effort that saw him twist and turn between defenders before firing past goalkeeper Stephen Pears.

Quinn made sure of the win with 11 minutes left of the clock, latching onto a rebounded Ndlovu effort inside the six-yard box.

The win lifted City to eighth, while Boro fell to 18th in the Premier League standings.

Sky Blues XI that day: Steve Ogrizovic (GK); Peter Atherton, Phil Babb, Brian Burrows, Andy Pearce, Micky Gunn, Lee Hurst, Peter Ndlovu, Micky Quinn, Robert Rosario, John Williams.

Subs: Jonathan Gould, David Busst, Sean Flynn.
