Staff from Coventry City and Sky Blues in the Community this week undertook a two-day Mental Health First Aider course.
The MHFA England course, delivered in partnership with the EFL, was completed by 11 members of staff from across a range of areas of the Football Club and Sky Blues in the Community.
The workplace has changed for people and organisations. In the last few years, we've seen a global pandemic, economic downturns, cost of living pressures and hybrid working, to name just a few things. This has taken a toll on employees, and now – more than ever – they need mental health support in the workplace. One in four people in the UK and Ireland will suffer from a common mental health issue at work, every year.
The members of staff are now qualified Mental Health First Aiders ®.
As a MHFAider® they will be able to:
- Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention
- Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports
- Practise active listening and empathy
- Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
- Discuss the MHFAider® role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality
The Mental Health First Aiders will also receive access to a range of resources to help support them in doing this and also their own self-care.
