INTERVIEW: Ben Sheaf discusses new deal, love for the Club and exciting future

The midfielder extends his stay at the Club...

27 March 2023

Sky Blues midfielder, Ben Sheaf, said it was an ‘easy decision’ when he committed his future to the club.

Sheaf put pen-to-paper on a new deal, which will see him stay with the club until the summer of 2026.

Ben has made 100 appearances for the club, following his arrival from Arsenal back in 2020, scoring four goals, including in City’s most recent outing against Blackpool.

The midfielder told how he was excited by the future of the football club and the love he feels from the supporters, as well as the close-knit group in the City squad.

On signing his new deal…

“I’m over the moon. I’ve really enjoyed my time here at the club over the last two-and-a-half years.

“To commit my future to the club, I’m really excited by the plan in place and hopefully we can achieve some really good things together.

“Every player wants to play at the highest level, play in the Premier League and hopefully together we can take the club in that direction. I think the future is bright for this club and its exciting times.”

Improving since he arrived at Coventry…

“I’ve certainly improved during my time here and I’m enjoying my football. The lads are fantastic, the fans are obviously outstanding, so it was an easy decision.

“I’ve grown up as a person and definitely improved as a player. I just want to continue to keep doing those things. Like I said, the lads are fantastic, and we have a really close group here, so it was an easy decision really.”

The Sky Blue Army…

“The lads spoke so highly about how good the fans were when I joined, so not having them there during my first year was really strange.

“But, having them back last season, to witness and feel that passion and that love for the club, I think it only helped my game and I think its gone strength to strength since then.

“I remember when I first heard it (Ben’s song). I can’t remember who we were playing but it was a nice feeling and I really enjoy it when I hear it.”

Settling in at the Club and the City…

“It (Coventry) feels like home. I live not too far away, and I love the area.

“It’s nice to be local. Home isn’t London for me anymore, I still have family in Kent but I feel at home here and to commit my future was pretty easy.”

Returning from injury…

“I’m delighted to be back. I hadn’t been injured like that for a while and you miss so many games when we’re playing Saturday, Tuesday.

“You have to get yourself back out there and the 45 minutes against Wigan helped and then back in the team against Blackpool was really nice, especially making my 100th appearance and scoring a  goal was a nice way to cap it off.”

Ready for the final eight games of the season…

“Hopefully everyone’s recharged and refreshed to push on in these last eight games because it could be important.

“The end goal is to make the play-offs and if we can do that it would be a fantastic achievement. It’s cliché but we have to take it a game at a time.

“We have every chance; we have a good group of players and hopefully we can make it happen.

“I can’t wait to get back in front of the fans this weekend against Stoke and hopefully we can get a win to kick us on again.”
