City dumped out Stoke in the FA Cup...

30 March 2023

We take a look back when the Sky Blues dumped out Premier League side Stoke City, in the FA Cup Third Round.

City were in good form heading into the match, having won four of their five games over Christmas, mean whilst Mark Hughes’ side were firmly in a relegation battle having lost to fellow strugglers Newcastle United last time out.

And it was the Sky Blues who would start the game on the front-foot, taking the lead early on when Jordan Willis was on the end of a Tom Davies header back across goal, leaving Jack Butland with no chance in the Stoke goal.

The Sky Blues were denied a second just before the break, when Geoff Cameron had to clear Marc McNulty’s deflected shot off the line.

Following the restart, the Potters equalised when Ramadan Sobhi was brought down in the box, with Charlie Adam drawing the tie level from the spot.

But City weren’t done yet and with 68 minutes on the clock the ball was played out wide to Jack Grimmer and he cut inside and fired the ball into the near corner to send Mark Robins’ side intothe fourth round.
