INTERVIEW: Jack Burroughs discusses new deal and aims for next season

Burroughs agreed a new two-year-deal...

2 June 2023

After putting pen-to-paper on a new two-year-deal, Jack Burroughs explained how it was a ‘no brainer’ when deciding to extend his stay at Coventry City.

Jack joined the Sky Blues when he was seven years old and has gone on to rise through the ranks, making his first Championship start last season in the 1-0 win over Watford at Vicarage Road.

Burroughs featured 14 times throughout the 2022/23 season and played his role in helping City finish the season in the top six.

Following the agreement of his new deal, Burroughs expressed his delight at committing to the club for another two years.

On extending his stay:

“It was a no-brainer.

“It’s been a successful season for me and for the group this season. To get the recognition for all the hard work I’ve put in this season, of course, I couldn’t say no to committing for another two seasons.

“It means the world to me. I’ve been a Cov fan since I was born. All my family are Cov fans and my friends as well, so it means the world to me and puts a big smile on my face.”

Looking back at last season:

“It was good. There were ups and downs throughout the season. I found opportunities hard to come by at times, but I like to think when I got the chance, I made the most of it.

“I relished every chance I had to wear the shirt and play in front of the fans so I’m really optimistic going into the new season.

“I learned a lot last season. I experienced playing in front of big crowds and I learned different aspects of the game and experienced playing in different positions.”

Aims for next season:

“I’ve played on the left and the right, I’ve played out wide and I’ve played in midfield, but now I just want to try and get one position nailed down.

“I look to next season with optimism because of what I’ve done this season. The performances I have put in I feel I’ve done well and personally, I’m happy, but I know there’s a lot to improve on.

“I said at the back end of last season, what I want to be doing now is playing lots of games and I need to come back in pre-season in the best shape I can and try and push for a spot in the team.”

Making his first start last season:

“That was a long time coming, the first start, and I was really nervous before the game, but looking back it is a moment I will always remember.

“It put me in good stead for the difficult games we had over the Christmas period and I loved playing against them and I thoroughly enjoyed it.”
