TRANSFER: Tatsuhiro Sakamoto joins Coventry City

10 July 2023

Coventry City are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Tatsuhiro Sakamoto!

The Japanese international midfielder joins the Sky Blues from Belgian club KV Oostende for an undisclosed fee, subject to EFL, FA and international clearance.

26-year-old Sakamoto has agreed a three-year contract with the Club until June 2026, with the transfer being finalised on Monday.

Tatsuhiro began his professional career with J2 league side Montedio Yamagata, making 44 appearances and scoring 7 goals in the process.

After a successful debut season, Sakamoto was signed by Cerezo Osaka for the 2020 season and would play 36 games and score 2 goals for them in his first season. Another 40 games and 6 goals in the 2021 campaign would see him make the move to Belgium with KV Oostende initially on loan.

In total at Oostende, Sakamoto played 81 games and scored 10 goals.

Tatsuhiro made his debut for the Japan national side in June 2021 in a World Cup qualifier against Tajikistan.
