Back to back draws for the Sky Blues...

1 January 2023

The Sky Blues register a 1-1 draw against Bristol City in their first game of 2023.

The Sky Blues took an early lead through Jake Bidwell who grabbed his first Coventry City goal.

But The Robins grew into the game and levelled before half-time to see the points shared at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Kasey Palmer kick-started the action against his former club, splitting the Robins’ defence to find Martyn Waghorn whose effort was parried away by Max O’Leary.

A drop ball situation in the centre circle presented Gustavo Hamer the Sky Blues’ next opportunity as the midfielder attempted an audacious lob but his effort was just off as it landed on the roof of the net.

After a strong start to the game, the Sky Blues finally got their reward following a neat one-two between Hamer and Viktor Gyökeres which then landed in the box for Jake Bidwell who nodded home for the lead.

But the Robins’ soon tied things up when Antoine Semenyo pounced on a loose ball and slotted into the bottom corner.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 1-1 Bristol City

Another opening came Waghorn’s way in the second half as he powered through and fired across goal but his strike sailed narrowly past the post.

Gyökeres showed his pace soon after to burst past Rob Atkinson but a sublime last-ditch challenge from Zak Vyner prevented the Swede an opening on goal.

Fabio Tavares made his impact off the bench by latching onto Jamie Allen’s through ball and hitting a quick shot toward goal but it was a routine save for O’Leary.

Tavares chanced his luck again as the game came to a close but it was not to be as the Sky Blues registered their second consecutive draw.
