Coventry City Under-21s have fallen to a 2-0 defeat away against Sheffield United, at York City's LNER Community Stadium.

Harrison Nee and Ryan Howley both came close for John Dempster's side but it was a double from Blades forward Louie Marsh that completed the scoring, with both goals coming before half-time.

Sheffield United named a strong starting eleven for the fixture with Ismaila Coulibaly and Oli McBurnie chosen to start - and caused the young Sky Blues problems from the get-go.

Owen Hampson and Sai Sachdev both saw efforts saved by Cian Tyler before the goalkeeper was forced into a stunning fingertip save from Coulibaly's arrowed shot.

Harrison Nee almost found an opening moments later, after Tyler found him in on goal with a ball over the top. He was unable to get his shot away, however.

The hosts found their opening on 40 minutes with Marsh, who has scored ten goals in seven this season, tapping in from Hampson's cross.

Moments later, Sheffield United doubled their lead with Marsh on target once again, this after winning the ball inside the Sky Blues penalty area.

After the break, City almost pulled one back after Ryan Howley's well-placed free-kick whipped across the back of the penalty area. However, there was no striker on hand to force the ball home.

Sheffield United continued to threaten the Coventry goal with Couilibaly once again testing Tyler from range, but the young goalkeeper had his post covered.

City made three changes late on as Callum Perry, Ricardo Dinanga and Under-18s talent Isaac Moore were introduced - but the Sky Blues were unable to find a goal to force themselves back into the game.
