PREVIEW: Sky Blues travel to Turf Moor

Mark Robins' side will face Burnley on Saturday afternoon...

13 January 2023

The Sky Blues will take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon, as Mark Robins and his players return to Championship action...

Meet the Clarets:

Burnley head into the weekend's clash top of the Championship, following an impressive return to life back in England's second tier.

The Clarets have won six in a row and have extended their gap to second place Sheffield United to five points and 14 from third placed Blackburn Rovers.

Vincent Kompany's first managerial job in England looks set to end with promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt of asking.

Burnley will look to boast a mostly healthy squad in terms of fitness, with the only doubt an injury to Taylor Harwood-Bellis, who picked up a knock last time out.

Mark Robins looks ahead to Burnley test:

“I said it the other year about Norwich being the best team to play in this league, but now I think Burnley are special. They’re one of these sides who have quality throughout the side, and they have a depth to them.

“They don’t have many injuries and they have a real strong pool of talent, and they play in a way which is relentless.

“They try and put you under enormous amounts of pressure and we have to stand up to that.

“We won’t have Jonathan Panzo tomorrow so things will have to change slightly for us.”

Vincent Kompany's pre-match thoughts:

“The reverse game feels like such a long time ago, they were missing a lot of key players around that time and had a lot of games called off around then.

“They were never going to stay down the bottom of the table and with all the players they had missing is what damaged them the most.

“They would have been a lot higher up the table had they not had them players missing and had the continued games called off.

“I think we have improved since then, but I also think they have improved from then too, but it’s a game at Turf Moor which is also special for us.

“We know they have some great players and it will be a difficult test for us and a challenge that we will look to take on.” Said the Burnley boss.

Kit selection:

The Sky Blues will wear their black third strip on Saturday, with our hosts wearing their traditional home colours.

City last sported their black strip against Cardiff City (H), drawing 0-0 with the Welsh outfit.

They have also worn the kit in games against Birmingham City and Reading.
