Sky Blues boss Mark Robins gave his thoughts after the final whistle, following defeat to Norwich City.
City fell three goals behind but fought back to get within a goal of the Canaries heading into half-time.
However, Norwich scored the fourth goal of the game, which took it way from the Sky Blues and ultimately condemned them to defeat.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Robins looked back on the afternoon’s events…
Reflecting on the game…
“If you’re passive against them they’ll kill you because the space kills you.
“We gave them too much and that’s what we spoke about. Norwich did the same last week against Preston; they sat off and they were 3-0 up in 20 minutes as well.
“It’s difficult because they have top players, and they drag you all over the place and they switch the play well and they make it difficult.
“You have to be brave, and you have to leave numbers up and when you do that you have to be able to defend man to man at the back and we didn’t do that.
“We tried to go after them, and the midfield tried to do that. But the back line didn’t do what we needed them to do the positioning of certain players wasn’t quite right and that ended up costing us.
“You’re dealing with mentality and people who have to be brave and on the front foot and to get anything you have to do that.”
Analysis of the goals conceded…
“The first goal from the corner was poor. They made poor decisions and we tried to change marking in the penalty area, ridiculous thing to do.
“The pace on the cross comes in and there’s a hole you leave, and they just walk through it and tap it into the net.
“The second goal we ended up being in decent positions and then falling over and allowing them to go through.
“If you get the wrong angle they’ll run inside, and they turn you and then they have massive amount of space inside.
“We gave them the second and then we gave them the third as well.”
Fighting back after 20 minutes…
“We could have crumbled, but we didn’t and that’s the biggest credit I can pay them.
“We were 3-0 down within a blink of an eye and then they started to do what we wanted them to do in the first place.
“We got after them and we got the goal from Jamie Allen, it’s headed down and it’s a great finish.
“The second one with Vik, he turns inside, and I’m told it’s not his goal, but I’ll let you tell him. But the second one brings us back into the game and you want to maintain that intensity.”
“Our season isn’t defined by games against Burnley and Norwich, it’s what comes next. But this is a lesson learnt against a side like that.
“If you’re brave, they give up chances and you can punish them.
“I don’t want to sit there and defend deep, because were not good enough to do that. We’ve built a team here who are offensive and try and get after teams and be exciting to watch.
“I imagine for the neutral it was exciting but for me it was heart attack material.”
