Sky Blues midfielder Gustavo Hamer praised his teammates for their fight at Turf Moor, despite seeing his side fall to defeat against Burnley.
The Sky Blues were unlucky not to take something from their trip to Lancashire, fighting hard against the league leaders in their own back yard.
Hamer impressed in midfield and helped City to create a number of chances from midfield.
Speaking to the media following the game, Hamer said:
On the performance against Burnley…
“As a team performance, I think we did really well, especially the first half. I think we didn’t give them anything and we came in the dressing room and said we have to keep going and be proud of how we had done so far.
“I think it was one of our best performances of the season, so it’s disappointing that they didn’t score in-play but from a set piece but I think there’d a lot of positives we can take into next game and we have to look to them.
“I think how we defend, all together and for each other, I think we did that really well and we didn’t gift them any chances so they went more for the crosses and then [Michael] Rose, [Callum] Doyle and Fankaty [Dabo] defended them really well, so I think we can be positive for this game."
On the Sky Blues’ chances to score…
“We had opportunities to score, especially in the first half and if we scored to make it 1-0 then it’s a whole different game but that’s football and if you don’t score your chance and they score theirs then you’re down, so it’s disappointing we didn’t take our chances and we weren’t ruthless enough but we have to work on that and we will work on that.
“I didn’t know how Viktor [Gyökeres] got the ball because I was looking behind me and then I heard the crowd screaming, so I turned around and saw Vik one-on-one with the keeper but it was one of those days where he can normally score from midfield, in the box and from penalties but today it didn’t go in but it was one of those days."
On Burnley’s goal…
“Something happened, I didn’t know, but I saw Ben [Wilson] in a row with [Nathan] Tella, I think, but that’s what Burnley wanted, for us to bite, and we did and that’s what we did wrong.
“We weren’t focused enough for the corner at that point and we made an error and the ball went in and it was 1-0 down, it was unfortunate that’s the way it happened, sometimes it’s in your favour and this time it was against us."
On the squad injury status and any potential incomings this window…
“We have a good squad, a strong squad, but we’re we don't have enough fit players. [Kyle] McFadzean is not fit enough, Matty Godden is not fit enough and [Callum] O’Hare is injured so we need more help and that is the manager’s decision on who he is going to take and bring into the team."
