INTERVIEW: Fankaty Dabo talks FA Cup, Wrexham and fitness

6 January 2023

Sky Blues defender Fankaty Dabo says he and his teammates will approach tomorrow’s FA Cup clash with non-league side Wrexham no different to how they approach their Championship fixtures.

City will be looking to book their place in the fourth round of this season’s FA Cup by dumping the National League side out on Saturday.

Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow’s encounter, he said…

On his fitness and his current form…

“I’m alive and that’s all that matters first and foremost. I’m good, I’m buzzing to be back.

“It’s difficult because the games are intense, they’re fast. I’m plodding along and hopefully I can get back there as quick as I can.”

On tomorrow’s game…

“We approach this game the same way we approach the league. It’s not going to be easy as they have nothing to lose - but that’s the magic of the FA Cup. All the pressure is on us, and we need to play well to ensure we don’t lose the game.

“For us, winning is everything. We’re approaching. This game to win it. We have to quieten their crowd as much as possible and stop them from having an influence on the game.”

On the team’s recent form…

“We’re feeling good. That’s football, form fluctuates. It shouldn’t be too long until we’re back fully functioning.”

On his own contribution to the team…

“I want to score. It’s been a while since I last scored. Bidders (Jake Bidwell) has scored so that gave me some inspiration, but I want the team to play well and to win, that’s the main thing.”

On playing against Kyle McFadzean’s brother…

“I might accidentally give him a kick because of how much he looks like Fadz!

“That’s football, you’re always playing against friends and family. You have to get used to it.”
