INTERVIEW: Brooke Norton-Cuffy on settling in, aims and Burnley

The defender looks ahead to Burnley...

13 January 2023

Brooke Norton-Cuffy spoke to the media for the first time and told how well he has settled in since joining the Sky Blues.

The 19-year-old joined City on loan from Arsenal last week, departing Rotherham United where he had spent the first half of the season.

Norton-Cuffy explained what his perceptions of Coventry were after playing at the CBS Arena in October and his experiences of coming up against Burnley.

How he has settled in…

“Everything is going well.

“I think it’s been a good place to come to. The squad here are very nice, hardworking and the boys have helped me to gel in since I’ve arrived.”

Coming up against Coventry earlier in the season…

“I knew they were a tough opponent, who never give up and the style of play was good.

“They went forward and played with a high intensity and when I came on, I had to just try and match that.”

How he likes to play…

“I’m a player who likes to get up and down the pitch. I like going forward, but I also do my defensive duties as well.

“I like to be exciting and get the crowd off their feet and create and stop goals.

“I’ve worked a lot on my defensive work and the start of the season I worked on it quite a lot to help that side of my game.”

Experience in the game so far…

“I was at Lincoln last season, that was my first season in men’s football and I think it was very good for me.

“Then I went to Rotherham in the Championship which was a step up and I just kept learning more and more every game.”

Facing Burnley already for Rotherham…

“It was a great game. They won in the last ten minutes. I came off and then I watched them score two goals in injury time.

“They’re a good side and they can kill you at any moment, so tomorrow the whole team needs to switch on.

“We need to work hard, stick to the game plan and stay focused and make sure we want it more than them.

When he found out about the interest from Coventry…

“I found out they were back in for me a few weeks ago, but that was just speculation.

“I was still at another club, so all my focus was on that, but I was aware there had been speculation.

“There were a few things behind the scenes where I was which made me move to Coventry and we felt this would be the best fit for me.”
