CLASSICS: Sky Blues 3-2 Wrexham

The Sky Blues will take on Wrexham this weekend in the FA Cup Third Round...

We take a look back at a classic meeting between Wrexham and the Sky Blues...

Coventry City will lock horns with non-league side Wrexham on Saturday, for the first time since the two Clubs met for a two-legged League Cup clash back in 1994.

The Sky Blues, then Premier League, took on a Red Dragons side then playing their football in the English third division.

Dion Dublin, who had only recently joined the club from Manchester United, handed City the lead early on before the unfancied Welsh club staged a fightback to level through Jonathan Cross.

Dublin reinstalled his side's lead shortly after with a delicate chip, before Roy Wegerle nodded home to make it three during the second half.

Wrexham's Gary Bennett would later make it 3-2 from the spot, but the visitors had no time to find the goals they needed to avoid a League Cup exit.

Coventry progressed but would be beaten in the next round by then-Premier League title chasers Blackburn Rovers.

Sky Blues XI that day: Steve Ogrizovic (GK); Gary Gillespie, Ally Pickering, David Busst, Steve Morgan; Paul Cook, Julian Darby, Sean Flynn, Cobi Jones; Dion Dublin, Roy Wegerle.
