CLASSICS: Norwich City 1-3 Sky Blues

We take a look back at a classic meeting between the Sky Blues and their upcoming opponents Norwich City...

20 January 2023

In the December of 1999, the Sky Blues made the long trip to Norwich for a break from Premier League action as they locked horns with Norwich City in the third round of the FA Cup.

City named a strong side against second-division opposition, with stars such as Robbie Keane and Mustapha Hadji in the starting eleven.

Future Coventry goalkeeper Andy Marshall was in goal for the hosts but was at fault for the game's opening goal, dropping a floated Noel Whelan effort into the net.

Norwich leveled moments later through Chris Llewellyn, before Cedric Roussell restored City's lead with just ten minutes to go.

And late on, John Eustace came from the bench to put the FA Cup tie to bed with an 84th-minute goal.

Sky Blues team that day: Magnus Hedman (GK), Gary Breen, Paul Williams (John Eustace), Youssef Chippo, Steve Froggatt, Mustapha Hadji, Gary McAllister, Carlton Palmer, Paul Telfer, Robbie Keane, Noel Whelan (Cedric Roussel).
