CLASSIC: Huddersfield Town 0-2 Sky Blues

We look back at a classic meeting between the two sides...

26 January 2023

Ahead of the Championship meeting between the Sky Blues and Huddersfield Town, we take a look back at a classic match from the past...

On the 7th May 1966, Coventry City travelled to West Yorkshire to take on Huddersfield at the no-longer-standing Leeds Road Stadium.

The two sides met in the second division with City very much on the up - and would, the following season, win promotion to the top flight.

The Sky Blues took the lead through Ray Pointer before half time, with a goal from a corner kick. Ernie Machin whipped in his cross, which was only half cleared by the Terriers and fired into the net by Ray Pointer.

After the break, Huddersfield took charge of the game but failed to find a way past legendary City goalkeeper Bill Glazier.

And the Sky Blues made the home side pay when Bobby Gould latched onto a defensive mistake to float an effort over the goalkeeper and into the Town net.

Sky Blues XI: Bill Glazier; Mick Kearns, George Curtis, Dietmar Bruck, Allan Harris; David Clements, Ernie Machin, Ronnies Rees, Ron Falmer; Ray Pointer, Bobby Gould.

Goal(s): Ray Pointer, Bobby Gould.
