TRAVEL: Information ahead of West Bromwich Albion away game

2 February 2023

There is a rail strike on Friday 3rd February, which coincides with our away game against West Bromwich Albion.

The information below has been produced by Transport for West Midlands with advice for fans attending the game, while below is also information regarding our official coach travel too:

Friday 3 February: Industrial strike action by RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers) and ASLEF (Associated Society of Locomotive Steam Enginemen and Firemen) is planned for 3 February 2023. There is also likely to be a severely reduced rail service on the day following the strike day.

Service Information

There will be no Cross Country, Chiltern Railways, Avanti West Coast, West Midlands Railway, and London North Western Railway services on the 3 February.

What does this mean?

Please plan ahead and consider your travel options, as your journeys are likely to take longer and you may not be able to use your usual travel option.

Bus Services

  • Bus may be an alternative for you, with an extensive bus network across the West     Midlands.
  • If you are unsure about journey lengths or ticket types, this information is available through the TfWM Journey Planner. To plan your journey please visit www.tfwm.org.uk
  • Expect services to be busier and leave more time for your journey.

Metro Services

  • West Midlands Metro has a station at the Hawthorns (near to West Bromwich Albion football ground).
  • The West Midlands Metro runs from Wolverhampton to Edgbaston Village via Birmingham city centre and may be an alternative for you.
  • Metro will be in operation but services are likely to be busier than normal due to the rail industrial action, so please plan ahead and avoid peak times where possible.
  • There are 5 park and ride sites along the Metro route, for further information please visit Park and ride | Transport for West Midlands (tfwm.org.uk)
  • You can plan your Metro journey using the TfWM Journey Planner, please visit www.tfwm.org.uk

Car sharing

  • One option could be car sharing to the Hawthorns with a friend, which will save more traffic on the roads and save you money too.

Whatever option you decide, leave more time for your journey as roads and public transport are likely to be busier.

You can use our journey planner on www.tfwm.org.uk to plan your journey. For the most up to date information follow us on @transportforwm on Twitter and Facebook.

Please check back on West Midlands Network (tfwm.org.uk) for the latest updated information.
