Points shared at Deepdale...

28 February 2023

The Sky Blues were forced to settle for a share of the points, following a goalless draw at Deepdale.

City had the better of the chances in the opening 45 minutes, but were unable to break the deadlock.

A point means it’s now five-unbeaten in the Championship for Mark Robins side, as they recorded a 16th clean sheet of the season.

The game’s first opening fell to City defender Callum Doyle, as he was delivered the ball on the edge of the area and he unleashed a thunderous strike, which forced Woodman into a smart stop, palming the strike over the bar.

The centre-back then looked to turn provider, picking out the run of Jamie Allen, who met the ball on the volley, firing inches over Woodman’s goal.

North End’s first chance was arguably the games best after 20 minutes, as he was left open ten yards out, but he blasted his shot into the side netting.

City caught the hosts on the break moments after, as Gustavo Hamer escaped with the ball, riding two challenges, before picking out the run of Allen, but he took a touch and got his shot away and Woodman was able to save.

Just before the break, Viktor Gyokeres played the ball inside for Jake Bidwell, but on his right-foot, he couldn’t direct his strike on target.

HALF-TIME: Preston North End 0-0 Sky Blues

The start of the second half saw City forced to make a change, as Josh Wilson-Esbrand replaced Jamie Allen.

After the opening ten minutes to the second half, it was Preston North End who produced the first attempt on target, with Ben Wilson called into action to save Alan Browne’s header.

Wilson was down low to his right minutes after, pushing Daniel Johnson’s strike from distance away from danger.

With just over 60 minutes on the clock, Mark Robins turned to his bench and introduced Tyler Walker, Jack Burroughs and Michael Rose to proceedings.

Wilson-Esbrand, who was came on at half-time, forced Woodman into a fine stop, as he picked up the ball, charged forward, before striking the ball towards goal, with the North End ‘keeper getting down well.

A ball across the box at the other end, eventually fell to Liam Delap ten yards out, but he pulled his shot well wide of goal.

Hamer was next to try his luck from range, striking the ball from a drop-ball following the referee being hit, but Woodman would save.

Making his 500th career appearance, Bidwell almost found the game’s opening goal when the ball broke to him in the area, but he couldn’t keep his effort down and it sailed over the bar.

City pushed for a goal late on, but were unable to beat Woodman, as they were forced to settle for a point.
