INTERVIEW: Ben Wilson on his new deal, clean sheets and targets

2 February 2023

The Sky Blues travel to West Bromwich Albion tomorrow night and City ‘keeper Ben Wilson is looking forward to the clash.

Wilson, who recently signed a new deal with Coventry, is hoping him and his teammates will be able to replicate the performance and result they picked up against the Baggies back in December.

Replicating that results would mean another clean sheet for Wilson, as he looks to extend his lead at the top of that table…

Signing his new deal…

“I was absolutely buzzing.

“It took a short while, but we got there in the end and I’m really happy to get it over the line and stay here for another two-and-a-half years and hopefully beyond that.”

Looking back on his time at Coventry…

“I’ve loved every single minute of it. When I was number two behind Marko and Simon and when I’ve been number one and now when I’m playing week in week out, I think I’ve took every day as it comes and I’m the same guy every day.

“You have your highs and your lows and I just try to smile every day and stay level headed.”

Getting back to winning ways last week…

“The performance against Huddersfield was really good and really positive. To get the win and the clean sheet, which we hadn’t had for a while was really important.

“The lads came in Monday morning, and it’s shown what the win has one for us this week and we go into tomorrow night every positive.”

Travelling to The Hawthorns…

“Friday night under the lights. I always enjoy a Friday night and we go into it full of confidence and we’re looking forward to it.

“It doesn’t seem two minutes ago we faced them at home, they were five unbeaten at the time and full of confidence and it was a good result that night, so hopefully we can produce the same performance levels and result tomorrow night.”

Aims for the season…

“As long as the majority of the squad stays fit, the play-offs is only a few points away and if we can put a few wins together it will give us an opportunity to push for that.”

Clean sheet record this season…

“Just being at the top would be nice to finish the season.

“Seeing the numbers, I’ve produced so far this season is unbelievable and gives me a confidence boost.

“Every clean sheet I get is an unbelievable achievement and keeping one in the championship is a massive thing.

“Being on 13 now and seeing the names I’m above, having played less games than them is unbelievable.

“I can’t thank my defence and the ten lads in front of me and the lads that come off the bench each week to helping me maintain the clean sheets.”
