CLASSICS: Rotherham United 1-3 Sky Blues

We take a look back at a classic meeting between the Sky Blues and Rotherham...

16 February 2023

On New Year’s Day of 2014, the Sky Blues completed a memorable comeback at the New York Stadium.

City fell behind midway through the first-half, when Joe Skarz found the back of the net for the hosts.

The Sky Blues pushed to find a leveller and ultimately came from the spot after Callum Wilson was brought down with 20 minutes left on the clock.

Carl Baker stepped-up and made no mistake and his goal proved to the catalyst City needed to take the lead, as Cyrus Christie would head home from a corner just over ten minutes later.

Rotherham though they had a way back into the game late on when they were awarded a penalty, but it was Joe Murphy saved to deny the Millers.

Then, with the hosts chasing a leveller, Carl Baker caught Rotherham from a corner and scored from inside his own half to put the game to bed.

Sky Blues XI that day: Joe Murphy (GK), Blair Adams, Andy Webster, Jordan Willis, Cyrus Christie, Carl Baker, Franck Moussa, Conor Thomas, Leon Clarke, Billy Daniels, Callum Wilson.

Subs: Lee Burge (GK), Ryan Haynes, Aaron Phillips, Stuart Urquhart, Adam Barton, Louis Garner, Chris Dagnall.
