Back-to-back wins for the Sky Blues...

26 December 2023

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto scored a brace, as he fired the Sky Blues to three points against Sheffield Wednesday at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Sakamoto scored either side of half-time to wrap up the points and make it back-to-back wins for City in the Championship.

City started on the front foot, looking to create an opening and they almost had that when Josh Eccles struck the ball from distance, forcing a well-timed block from a Sheffield Wednesday man.

However, there would be nothing the visitors could do to prevent the Sky Blues breaking the deadlock as a ball in from the left by Haji Wright was met by Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and he found the back of the net, to make it two in two for the winger.

Mark Robins side were finding joy down the channels, with Sakamoto and Wright causing the Owls backline problems throughout the first half, as City looked to double their advantage.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

It was service resumed after the restart, with City in the driving seat and Sakamoto looking a threat, firing the ball narrowly wide on the clearance of a corner.

At the other end, Wednesday were in search of a leveller, but City were defending for their lives, with Collins punching the ball away and, on the follow-up, Milan van Ewijk throwing his body on the line twice to keep the Owls out.

It could have been out of sight moments later after Josh Eccles picked out Haji at the back post, but his header went agonisingly wide across the face of goal.

Collins kept the scores level with a fine stop with just under 20 minutes remaining, getting down low to his right to keep out Bailey Cadamarteri.

The game was wrapped up with a minute remaining as Sakamoto scored his second of the game, cutting back onto his left and bending the ball past Dawson to make it back-to-back wins for City.
