NEWS: Travel info for Birmingham City home game - including A444 post-match closure and train disruption

7 December 2023

Fans attending Friday night’s game between Coventry City and Birmingham City at the Coventry Building Society Arena are advised of two important pieces of travel information.

The A444 Jimmy Hill Way will be closed for a period post-match to enable safe exit of supporters, while train strikes will affect the journeys of supporters too.

There is also a Christmas Party night event being held at the Arena.

Full advice and information is detailed below…

A444 Jimmy Hill Way post-match closure

The road closure will be installed ahead of the final whistle to ensure the safe egress of pedestrian traffic from the Coventry Building Society Arena – there will be no impact on pre-match travel.

This post-match closure is installed for the safety of all and once it is deemed safe to do so, the closure will be lifted.

Vehicles in Car Park C will not be held back but will only be allowed to exit right towards Coventry City Centre and should then follow the diversion route put in place if heading towards the M6.

Once the closure is lifted, Car Parks A and D will be released first to ensure minimal disruption.

The closure is in place from A444 Holbrook Way to the M6 Junction 3, with exit only allowed from Car Park C and Arena Shopping Park Southbound towards Coventry City Centre.

Supporters leaving the Arena are still urged to use the correct crossing areas, however there will not be traffic on the road while the road closure is in place.

Road closures have been successfully in place for a number of concerts at the Arena and the Arena will work to ensure that this one, the first for a Sky Blues game, is also successful and safe.

Train Strikes – ASLEF Overtime Ban

There is an ASLEF an overtime ban between 1st – 9th December.

This will directly impact Friday’s fixture, with no West Midlands Trains services running to Coventry.

Rail replacement services will be in place between Leamington Spa - Nuneaton, however there will be no direct service from Birmingham, rail replacement services will have limited capacity and will not stop at Coventry Arena before or after the match.

Supporters should be advised to make alternative travel arrangements, but those wishing to travel via rail replacement buses should also be advised to check on the day for further changes or cancellations.

Christmas Party night at the Arena - Car Parking

Fans are advised that a Christmas Party night, arranged prior to the fixture being chosen for Sky Sports, is taking place in the Exhibition Hall at the Arena.

This will mean higher footfall and vehicle traffic around 6pm – 7pm when party attendees will be arriving.

Anyone with Seasonal Bookings that have been displaced from have already been contacted directly. Please look out for an email from Christopher O'Toole, car parking manager at the Arena, or APCOA/Coventry City for specific parking changes on their booking. Anyone not in receipt of an email is not affected.
