There are a number of positions available, Monday to Friday evening, and on a Sunday morning.


Job Title:  Stewards (Casual Contract)
Department: Safety
Location: The Alan Higgs Centre
Reporting to: HR and the Academy Office
Hours of work: Monday to Friday 5.30pm-8.15pm (2 positions) and Sunday 9.30am-1.30pm (1 position)

Coventry City Football Club is looking to recruit Stewards to work evenings from Monday to Friday and Sunday mornings during the match day and training programme each Season. There are a number of positions available.

Reporting to HR and the Academy office, the successful candidate(s) will work as part of the Club’s Academy programme and ideally have some experience of working in a safety role previously.



To take an active role to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, the provision of the reasonable care, safety, security and customer service to everyone attending the Academy, in accordance with the Club’s Safety and Safeguarding Policies.  This includes the safety and security of players and those attending on site as spectators.

The site is a busy site of multiple use and the role will be specifically to ensure the safety and welfare of those attending the Club’s Academy programme which takes place on the outside pitches and the indoor dome facility (during the winter months). Please note that these roles are working outside.


  • Will report directly to the Academy staff member in charge of the area to which the Safety Steward is allocated for duty.
  • Will observe the highest standards of Health & Safety and not do anything to prejudice the health and safety of himself/herself or any Club employee or visitor.
  • Will attend all training sessions as required by the Club.
  • Will attend the each day as per the scheduled hours.
  • Maintain a smart in appearance and abide by the Club’s dress code, wear the issued personal protective clothing and be in possession of the Club Steward Safety Briefing Document.
  • Will attend pre-and post-match briefing/debriefing sessions and ensure all information is understood.
  • Will be responsible for the safety, security, comfort and service to spectators within their designated area of duty and in so doing enforce, when necessary, the Club’s policies and procedure.
  • Assist in reporting any concerns to the Safeguarding team.

Safety Stewards must take their duties seriously – never be complacent and remember that the safety of spectators and players are paramount.  Safety Stewards are paid to carry out a specific duty and are not employed to watch the event.

Safety Stewards will be courteous at all times to spectators and direct them to the spectator area, keeping entrances and emergency exits clear at all times.

Safety Stewards are expected to always maintain constant vigilance whilst on duty for anything likely to prejudice spectator safety and notify a staff member or member of the Safeguarding team of any issues.

  • Must be trustworthy and reliable.
  • A strong work ethic.

This post requires Enhanced Criminal Records Checks and checks against the Barred Lists and is exempt from Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974).  Therefore, all convictions including spent convictions that have not been subject to filtering by the DBS should be declared.
