PUSB: 'From The Board' versus Middlesbrough

14 August 2023

After each matchday programme this season, we publish the regular column from the Coventry City board on our website. You can read Coventry City Chief Executive Dave Boddy's column from our game against Middlesbrough below:

Good afternoon and welcome back to the Coventry Building Society Arena as we host Middlesbrough in our opening home league game of the 2023/24 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all Sky Blues fans, plus the players, staff, officials and supporters who join us here from Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough were our last opponents here in the 2022/23 season for the first-leg of our Play Off Semi Final. Victory across two legs there of course booked our place at Wembley for the Play-Off Final and it was heartbreaking to miss out on promotion in that way. However it was a tremendous day for the Club, backed by thousands of supporters in person and at home, and a huge achievement to be that close to the Premier League – again showing the progress that has been made at the Club over the last 6 years, and that is credit to everyone involved.

It has been a very busy Summer across the Football Club. We have for the second season running broken our Season Ticket record. We are now approaching a total of nearly 19,000 Season Tickets sold, including Premium Memberships, which is testament to the players and staff and to the squad that is being built here. These fans will receive their new Cards from next week onwards, having used e-tickets today. It has never been in doubt how passionate the Sky Blue Army is about their Club and we will see and hear that this season more than ever at the Arena.

The Arena looks very different too. Over the Summer, a lot of work and investment has gone into significant new branding in the concourse and externally around the East Stand, which will improve the matchday experience for our supporters. We have also improved the appearance around the players entrance too.

For the players and football staff, we have built a new changing room which will be in use for the first time today. This sees us revert back to our original dressing room from when the Club first moved here in 2005 and significantly increases the space and quality of facility.

Talking of increasing space, that is why we are moving our Club Shop round to the South-West corner of the Arena to create a new Superstore. This will be a much-improved area for our shop too, and is in line with the Club’s aim to increase the breadth and quality of our retail offering, with many new products and ranges becoming available over the coming months. We’ll be announcing the opening date of our new Superstore shortly.

The new home shirt was revealed last month, with the away and third kits following suit this month. We reported record sales of this kit, which sees a return to stripes for the first time in a number of years and incorporates elements of the Club crest within its eye-catching design. This will be available to buy in stores later this month, with pre-orders dispatched before that. The shirt also marks the 140th anniversary of the Club’s foundation, which falls tomorrow – and is a landmark we are also acknowledging in this programme too.

This is just a snapshot of some of the things that are being worked on at the Club as we continue to look to improve the experience for supporters and players, while also generating revenue to support our aims.

Thank you for your support as always – PUSB.

Dave
