9 August 2023

Matty Godden was ‘delighted’ as he agreed terms on a new two-year deal with the Sky Blues.

The striker, who has been influential in City’s rise through the league’s since his arrival in 2019, will extend his stay at the Club until 2025.

Godden has scored plenty of goals and wracked up over 100 appearances during his time with the Sky Blues and he told what this Club means to him.

Getting the new deal signed…

“It’s something that has been ongoing since the summer.

“I’m absolutely delighted and it’s something I’ve wanted and now I can concentrate on this season and next season and see where we can go.”

Time at the Club so far…

“It’s been unbelievable hence why I’ve wanted to stay and be part of what’s going on now.

“I’ve enjoyed it more here than wherever I’ve been and my family and everyone else has bought into it.

“We love the area, and we love the Club and it’s something we’re all delighted to get over the line.”

Journey he has been on…

“The journey has been special and something I will remember for the rest of my life.

“It means a lot to me to get this over the line and hopefully we can make some more memories.”

Favourite moments…

“The promotion year.

“We have to take a lot from last year as well and build on that. We’ve had some good memories s in the Championship.

“The runs we were on last year and times the year before and then for me personally some of the goal scoring runs I’ve been on and hopefully I can make some more memories.”

Favourite goals…

“A few. Bristol city at home in 2021, I think I scored three or four last minute winners and they probably stand out.

“Then the hat-tricks against Tranmere and Wycombe back-to-back stood out for me.”

This season so far…

“It’s been a big change this summer, but it was a big change when I signed in 2019. There were 11 in that year and we’re close to that number now.

“It’s exciting and enjoyable to be part of and I’m sure everyone is looking forward to being part of this year and building on pre-season.

“We want to be fighting where we were last year and I think we deserve to be up there again.

“Nothing is a given in this league. We will go out there and give it our all every game and see where that takes us.”

What celebration is next…

“No new celebration yet, I will wait and see. I’m not too far away from a goal and I’m sure I will make one up then.”
