INTERVIEW: Joel Latibeaudiere looks ahead to his return to Swansea

The defender returns to the home of his former side...

18 August 2023

Joel Latibeaudiere is looking forward to his return to the Swansea.com Stadium as he looks to make it back-to-back wins for the Sky Blues.

The defender helped City keep their first clean sheet of the season, alongside a first win of the campaign against Middlesbrough last week.

Now, Latibeaudiere is targeting a second win on the bounce at the home of his former side.

Settling in well…

“Yeah, the boys have welcomed me well.

“The staff are all great and yeah, settling in well.”

Gelling together at the back…

“I think it definitely does take time and we have been we have been comfortable so far, especially with Fadz in the middle keeping us where we need to be as experience.

“Then Bobby as well had a great season last year at Barnsley. We all know what we have to do defensively but I think we still need to work on stuff on the ball and as we advance higher up the pitch, but like you said that will take time and that will come.”

Playing alongside Kyle McFadzean…

“He’s this class he is a proper leader. He knows when to let you know and he knows when to encourage as well, so I love playing with him.”

Heading back to Swansea…

“I remember seeing it when the fixtures came out.

“I'm excited to go back there. I'm excited to go and go get some more points on the table as well.

“I'm hoping a good one. I don't quite know yet. Yeah, hopefully it's a good one. But I know all the Coventry fans will be there as well.

“So, I'm sure they will be a loud as loud as ever and it will be a good atmosphere.”

Change of style under Michael Duff…

“I don't think anyone will be quite similar in style to the way Russell Martin likes to play I think it's very unique and is his own philosophy.

“I think they will be there will be different I think they're a bit more direct now and they like to get the ball up the pitch quicker.

“The manager did a great job with Barnsley and I'm sure he'll bring all the stuff that he did to the Swansea team.”

Best is yet to come…

“Sometimes it is a bit frustrating because you want to just go and do your thing and I said get the points on the table, go win games, but we know as a group that for us to be our best we have to trust in what the staff are saying and the staff here are so good.

“We know that if we trust them and trust what they're telling us that however long it takes it will become a group that we all know we can be.”

Being towards the top end of the table…

“100% Especially with the way that we go forward the way that we create chances.

“Then, us three at the back are gelling nicely and there's players that are still getting back to fitness, we have a few players in the gym still, so when they come back as well to squad, it's going to be a bit deeper.”
