INTERVIEW: Haji Wright on excitement for Coventry Building Society Arena debut

11 August 2023

Haji Wright is excited to make his first appearance at the Coventry Building Society Arena this weekend.

Wright made his debut against Leicester City, before starting for the first time against AFC Wimbledon.

The striker now has his eyes set on a first appearance at the CBS Arena, as City entertain Middlesbrough.

How have the first few days been…

“Good I like the guys and I like the people around the building so far it's been good, unfortunately we haven’t been able to win a game, but otherwise all good.”

Wanting to hit the ground running…

“I’m not impatient. I think we all know it's going to take a little bit of time.

“But of course, we want it to go as quickly as possible. So, we're all working hard every day to reach that point. But no, I don't think anybody in the building is impatient.”

Gelling with his teammates…

“I think the more time you spend with each other, the better the feeling is between the guys on the pitch, and I think now I've been here around a week, and I think every day it's just getting better and better.”

Thinking about the price tag…

“Personally, no, I don't really think about it.

“I just tried to perform every day and give my best and I just want to help the team win and achieve its goals.”

Aims for this season…

“I just want to score as many goals as possible if it means I need to score 30 for us to get promotion or for us to get a playoff spot and that's what it is.”

Change of style in England…

“Yeah, of course. I think styles vary from country to country.

“I think it's no different with England. I think here it's a fast high intensity type of football. And I think a lot of aspects that'll, that'll be good for me. But it's again, it's going to take a little bit getting used to and hopefully I can settle in quickly.”

Playing at the Coventry Building Society Arena…

“Exciting. Firstly, I'm very little bit nervous and excited to get on the pitch and just just hear the fans and take in the whole atmosphere.

“I've heard a lot of good things. So yeah, I'm really looking forward to it.

“They're (fans) at every away game. They're at every home game they're there supporting you. So obviously, it kind of makes us players want to give them something to clap for.”
