INTERVIEW: Evan Eghosa grateful to have signed new Coventry City contract

The youngster has signed a new deal with the Sky Blues...

2 August 2023

Sky Blues youngster Evan Eghosa says he is grateful to have signed a new two-year contract with the Club, his first professional deal.

The talented midfielder, who joined the Club two seasons ago, has quickly climbed the ranks at The Alan Higgs Centre and became a regular for John Dempster's Under-21s side last term.

He has already helped the young Sky Blues to two Cup finals and spent the summer training alongside first-team stars and under the watch of Mark Robins and his coaches.

Congratulations Evan, you must be delighted!

I am very happy, thank you! It has been great and I am very grateful. My faith has been a big part of this too, so I have to thank God, first and foremost.

I am grateful to be here, and to have signed my first professional deal.

How have the last two years been for you since joining the Club?

It's been really good. During my first season, I had a few appearances for the Under-21s and I ended the campaign by winning the Professional Development League at Bristol [City]. That was a really good first season for me.

Last season, I was with the Under-21s a bit more and started lots of games. We made it to the Birmingham Senior Cup Final and, unfortunately, lost but it has been a very good two years with the Club.

This season you have spent the summer training with the first team at The Sky Blue Lodge. How have you found the experience?

Training with the first team has been a great experience. I have been able to see where the levels are. That has inspired me to push.

Working with the first team coaches, Dennis [Lawrence], Adi [Viveash], and the Gaffer, has been really good. They've been on to me and talking to me: which has been so good for my development as well.

You also played against three senior teams during the summer, totaling over 100 minutes in the process. How was that experience and how has that adjusted your targets for the seasons ahead?

I played against three EFL teams during the summer. The Shrewsbury Town game was really tough, physically, which I really enjoyed, and the Forest Green Rovers game was good too.

My aim now is to get more first-team exposure. I played lots of Under-21s last season but now I want to be around the first team and push myself into the manager's thoughts.

I want to push on now and develop, they're my aims.
