City's Under-21s wrap up the points...

17 April 2023

The Sky Blues Under-21s stretched their unbeaten run to six games, with victory against Cardiff City.

A brace for Will Bapaga and another strike from Justin Obikwu wrapped up the points in the Professional Development League.

City remain four points off the top two in the Northern Section, with three games remaining.

The first opening of the game fell for the visitors, and it was Lennon Peake who worked his way into the area and released an effort, which was straight down the throat of Dan Rachel in the City goal.

Cardiff were being restricted to shots from distance, as besides from the games opening chance, the Bluebirds were failing to find the target.

But the Sky Blues wouldn’t have the same problem, as they took their lead with the first effort on target. Justin Obikwu closed down Jake Dennis’ clearance and then had the task of rolling the ball into the empty net.

Peake was the Cardiff player who was getting shots away, but he was being denied by Rachel, who made another stop at the near post.

At the other end, the City captain for the afternoon, Harrison Nee came close to adding a second, but his shot went narrowly wide.

The Sky Blues would double their lead seconds before the break, as Will Bapaga stepped up to take a penalty, which had been awarded for a foul on Obikwu, and the City winger left Dennis with no chance, firing into the bottom corner.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 2-0 Cardiff City

Cameron Antwi was introduced at half-time for the visitors and he had a sight of goal from distance, firing inches wide.

Cardiff started the second half well and were forcing Rachel into some smart stops, with Isaac Jeffries stinging the ‘keepers palms from range.

After adding a second just before the break, Will Bapaga almost added a third, after playing a one-two with Eghosa, before seeing his shot saved by Dennis.

Rachel was enjoying a fine afternoon, saving well from an Isaac Jeffries shot from distance, which looked destined for the top corner.

Justin Obikwu was causing the Bluebirds defense problems and he almost scored a superb solo strike, but he saw his shot canon back off the woodwork.

However, City would add a third and it would come from the penalty spot again, firing the ball into the top corner.
