Sky Blues take all three points in the capital...

15 April 2023

Goals from Viktor Gyökeres and Gustavo Hamer sealed a 3-0 away win for the Sky Blues against Queens Park Rangers.

Viktor Gyökeres opened the scoring for the Sky Blues, combining well with Gustavo Hamer before dispatching from inside the box.

The hosts threatened with two chances either side of half time but were denied by two great stops from Ben Wilson.

The Sky Blues were unable to find that two-goal cushion but defended well before going on to grab two late goals to wrap up the three points.

A fast start ensued for the Sky Blues who broke the deadlock after ten minutes. Viktor Gyökeres stole possession on the half way line with the ball dropping to Gustavo Hamer who returned the ball back to the Swede to net his 19th league goal of the season.

Ilias Chair had the Hoops’ first real sight on goal just past the half hour mark with a free-kick from 25-yards but his strike sailed over the bar.

Chair stepped up again from a similar spot, moments before the half time whistle, this time with a much fiercer effort to force Ben Wilson into an equally impressive save.

HALF-TIME: QPR 0-1 Sky Blues

Wilson stepped up with another spectacular save after the restart, clawing out Sam Field’s wicked strike to preserve the Sky Blues’ clean sheet.

The game became a scrappy one, broken up by the referees whistle more often than not but the Sky Blues continued to push for an extension of their lead.

Hamer found joy on the left hand channel but Matty Godden came closest with a strike just wide of the post after a Sky Blues counter attack.

Godden had it in the back of the net moments later, only to be chalked off by an offside call.

The Sky Blues finally grabbed their second in the dying minutes as Gyökeres and Tyler Walker combined to tee up Hamer who fired home at the second time of asking.

A third followed instantly for City as Hamer broke away and found Gyökeres who clinically finished, a 20th league strike for City's striker. Three goals and three points for the Sky Blues.
