PREVIEW: Sky Blues host Watford on Easter Monday

The two sides remain firmly in the SkyBet Championship play-off race...

9 April 2023

The Sky Blues host to Watford at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Easter Monday as they look to continue their push towards the top six places...

Meet the Hornets:

Watford will arrive at the CBS Arena looking to stop the rot having lost three of their last five games - and having tasted victory only twice since the end of January.

They will have to take on the Sky Blues without first-choice goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann, who was red-carded against Huddersfield Town last time out. He is likely to be replaced by 35-year-old Ben Hamer.

For many, Joao Pedro has been Watford's star man this term with fullback Hassane Kamara having also impressed. Pedro has scored nine goals this season, tied with Ismaila Sarr at the summit of the Hornets' top goalscorer standings.

Both the Sky Blues and Watford have scored an average of 1.2 goals per match this season with City just edging the Hornets on average goals conceded per match (1.0 to 1.1).

Watford's average possession does trump City's however (53.2% to 47.3%).

Inside the Sky Blues camp:

Mark Robins said: "It was a really good performance [on Friday afternoon] and we end up with a 0-0 draw away at Swansea. Although we wanted the three points, it's really difficult to open up against them because there’s always a chance you can be left open at the back.

“You have to take the point and move on with it and now we have to try back it up on Monday with a win."

He added: "This is a big game for us.”
