INTERVIEW: Josh Wilson-Esbrand discusses settling in at Coventry and aims for rest of the season

14 April 2023

Josh Wilson-Esbrand is targeting a positive end to the season, as City look to close the gap on the play-off places.

The Sky Blues currently sit three points outside of the top six, with five games remaining in the Championship.

Having started City's last two fixtures, Wilson-Esbrand has enjoyed his role in the squad, having settled in well since his loan move from Manchester City.

As City prepare for a trip to Loftus Road to face Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, Wilson-Esbrand spoke to the local press.

How he has settled in at Coventry…

“It’s good I’m enjoying it a lot.

“It hasn’t been a surprise in terms of the style of play that teams play or the physicality of the league, but still having that knowledge or expectation of what you’re going to face is something you have to get used to anyway.

“It takes time. I’ve had to do it quite quick having only come into the team in January, I didn’t have the full season to get used to it.

“You have to adjust as quick as you can and get used to it as fast as you can.”

Adjusting to opposition…

“The defending side is something you have to learn more.

“Teams play longer balls more and they’re more physical and inclined to run in behind, so you have to be ready at all times.”

Aiming for a place in the top six…

“The more games we can push to play is better for the team, so we want to get into those play-off places.

“Imagine getting promotion, it would be a massive thing for this club. We have to enjoy it and try not to play with any pressure and go and do what we can do.

“I think we can beat anyone in this league on our day that is put in front of us.

“In the team and the staff, we know we have a chance if we can string those performances together.”

Knowing Callum Doyle before arriving…

“It meant the settling in period was more comfortable.

“I get along with the boys really well and the team camaraderie is really good and the environment in the changing room and team is good.”

The Sky Blues supporters…

“The atmosphere has been really good. Our fans are great home and away and they are some of the vest fans I’ve seen.

“I’m looking forward to it (QPR) and I’m sure it will be another good atmosphere on the road again.”
