INTERVIEW: Josh Eccles excited for the final run-in

28 April 2023

Josh Eccles told how he is ‘excited’ for Saturday’s clash with Birmingham City at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The midfielder and his teammates will line-up against Blues in front of a sell out crowd in the final home fixture of the season.

Having been born and raised in Coventry, and having risen through the ranks at the football club, Eccles is excited for the final run-in.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s game…

“I’m pretty excited. We know it’s a massive game and it’s a chance to keep the play-off place if we get the win, with one game to go.

“We just need to play it like every other game we’ve played this season, play our own game first and foremost. We know it’s going to be a big crowd tomorrow, but it doesn’t change anything.

“It’s Important to win the game no matter how we do it, as long as we win it at the end of the day.”

Positive mood around the club…

“The club is in a better position, and we’ve signed a new deal with the stadium for five years which is massive for the club.

“We’re in the championship pushing for a play-off place, which may be sooner than expected but we’re taking it by the scruff of the next and we’re proving we’re a good team and we deserve to be where we are.”

Being part of the side as a local lad…

“Being from Coventry and growing up here and playing a part feels surreal. Me and Jack (Burroughs) spoke yesterday, and we said it means a lot to play a part and we’ve both come through the academy and support the club and it’s amazing.

“we’re working a way back up which is great to see and it’s amazing to be part of it all.”

Looking for a first goal…

“There wouldn’t be a better time to do it. I remember ten years ago playing with my mates celebrating like we were at Wembley and maybe it could come true this year.”

The rest of the squad feeling the moment…

“I’m sure they feel it to, just by playing in front of the fans. The fans are the best and the lads say that they’re some of the best they’ve played for.

“They know how much the club means and they want to work as hard as they can and give everything, they can to give the fans what they deserve.”
