INTERVIEW: George Burroughs on return from injury and Cardiff win

17 April 2023

After three months on the sidelines, George Burroughs made his first start against Cardiff City for the Under-21s.

Burroughs suffered an injury whilst out on loan with AFC Telford, cutting short his loan-spell to rehabilitate with the Sky Blues.

Coming off the bench against Alvechurch marked his return last week, but the centre-back went a step further in his recovery, by starting against the Bluebirds.

Starting his first game for three months…

“It was difficult. When you haven’t played for a while, you’re a bit tired, but I thought my form was good and to get the three points and a clean sheet is brilliant.”

Frustrating being injured…

“It’s been a while, it’s quite frustrating to not be playing. You come and you have to watch a lot of games, especially at the CBS Arena and you want to be out there.

“To start today and have the ten minutes against Alvechurch last week was nice and I’m looking forward to more games now.”

Recovering from injury…

“I want to put it behind me. I got injured at Telford and didn’t quite realise what it was until I came back to Coventry in January.

“It was three months out and now hopefully there’s no more and we can continue for the rest of the season.”

Getting up to speed…

“Today I felt alright.

“When I came on against Alvechurch I struggled a bit to get up to speed, but to get 85 minutes today was decent and I’m happy for that.”

Opportunity play in the Birmingham Senior Cup…

“Finals are always exciting.

“We’ve done well in the Senior Cup. We’ve had some difficult games. Alvechurch, we rode our lock towards the end, but its another final and one we’re all looking forward to.”

Last few games remaining…

“Three games, nine points to play for.

“You aim to get maximum points, but we take each game at a time. We’ve got Ipswich on Friday and that’s all we’re focusing on.”
