INTERVIEW: Callum Doyle reflects on Watford draw

The defender looked back on the draw...

10 April 2023

Sky Blues defender, Callum Doyle, is looking to take a point gained against Watford into Saturday’s trip to Queens Park Rangers.

City came from behind to earn a draw against the Hornets, being denied a winner as they pushed for all three points late on.

A draw leaves the Sky Blues three points off the play-off places, with five games remaining of the season.

Reflecting after the final whistle, Doyle gave his assessment on proceedings…

Going behind in the game…

“I think we were just stretched, especially across the back three. You can not do that with their pace up front but luckily in the second half we sorted that out.

“They have good players and sometimes with their goals you need to take it on the chin and do better next time.”

The start to the game…

“It was not our best start to the game but second half we came out stronger and should be disappointed not to get the win.

“To come back from two goals down is a positive but we just need to keep pushing.”

Coming out of the traps second half…

“Disappointed going into half time, but we spoke to each other and came together. The way we got back into the game with the two goals from Ben and Matty was good.”

On the Easter period and the games coming up…

“It is not what we wanted, but picking up these points are vital especially when we are pushing for the play-offs. Any points at this stage we will definitely take. We just need to go into the next one and get the win.

“We have not got a lot of games left so we need to take our chances and get those three points. We just need to focus on us, how we play and how we can win the game.”

Reflecting on the season so far…

“It is a good effort from the lads, especially with what happened at the start of the season. So, we managed to change that around and I am pretty sure the lads can be proud.”

On his involvement in the Sheaf goal…

“The cross was initially for Godden. Props to him for the flick on to make a great goal.”
