City bounce back with victory at Crewe...

12 September 2022

The Sky Blues Under-21s picked up their first away win of the season thanks to goals from Tom Costello and Will Bapaga either side of half-time.

The hosts had the first chance of the game when Tabiner found Evans, who in return spotted the run of Finney, but his shot was wide of goal.

City then took control of the half and had chances from Tom Costello, but he saw two efforts sail over the bar.

The Sky Blues were awarded a penalty in the 25th minite when Harrison Nee was brought down in the box under a challenge from Kempster- Down.

Costello then stepped-up and found the back of the net, to put City in front with his first goal of the season in the Professional Development League.

Crewe then took the game to City and looked for a way back into the game, but they had several chances wide of goal, as well as Luke Bell being called into action to deny Oli Finney.

HALF-TIME: Crewe Alexandra 0-1 Sky Blues

An early chance for Crewe at the start of the second half was quickly followed by a chance for Costello to add a second, but he was denied by a great save from Richards in the Crewe goal.

However, the Sky Blues would get their second and it was Will Bapaga, who was introduced just over five minutes earlier and he slotted his effort into the bottom corner.

Crewe looked to pull one back, but Bell remained alert to keep out Evans, who was played the ball across goal by the hosts Trialist.

The Sky Blues would hold on for all three points and an important clean sheet, as John Dempster’s side climb to 3rd in the Northern section of the Professional Development League.

Sky Blues XI: Luke Bell; Dermi Lusala, Abel Alabi, Jay McGrath (C), Callum Perry, Ricardo Dinanga (60’ Bapaga); Marco Rus, Lewys McCafferty, Evan Eghosa; Harrison Nee, Tom Costello (77’ Obikwu).

Subs: Charlie Callaghan, Tristen Batanwi, Justin Obikwu, Bradley Stretton, Will Bapaga.
